Meet the Winged Guardians, Part 4

I figured it's time to give the men of the WG Universe some love, so without further ado, I give you Prince Finn! He's smart, pretty, and more than a little bit dangerous.

HRH Crown Prince Regent Finnegan mac Néill Ó Cathasaigh, The Vigilant, Prince of Therantia, Archduke of the Chernyvolk, Prince of the Obake, Protector of the Boto and Encantado, Champion of the Kanima, Defender of the Federated Shifters

It’s a lot. Call him Prince Finn O’Casey, it’s simpler.

Born: Castle Bisclavret

House: Royal House of Lupine

Likes: Being in the background; carrying on his late mother’s good works; being known for the work he does and not who he is; keeping longstanding friendships; a well-fitting suit; shooting pool; being among the populace and seen as less distanced from everyday shifters; a good steak; Italian food; waking up next to Cora every morning.

Dislikes: Being the responsible one all the time; worrying about his father’s health constantly; feeling like he’s in this world all alone; dealing with his perilously prickly aunt; being lied to and manipulated.

Life motto: Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible/For it is in giving that we receive (St. Francis of Assisi)

I have had better weeks. Hell, better months and years, too, if I’m being honest. What started as slipping out of the palace for some unaccompanied fresh air, and maybe a beer and some uncomplicated company became anything but uncomplicated.

That’s what I get for ditching my minders and striking out on my own.

Let me back up. I picked up a girl at a bar. It was an out of the way joint where no one would think to look for me and there she was, shooting pool and looking like her clothes would look better all over my floor. And maybe I indulged my baser inclinations. I’m but a mortal, and nothing short of a god could have resisted her.

Now I have a trigger-happy ex-spy glued to my side who’s been paid to protect me by people neither of us know. It’s not as bad as it sounds though, because as sharp as her edges are, Cora’s curves are as soft as they come. Especially under my hands.

I should not be lusting after my bodyguard. Especially when the list of things she’s keeping from me is longer than she is tall. I know this. I repeat this mantra daily, and at some point, I’m sure it will be true. Today, however, is not that day. It wouldn’t be so bad, but after that first night together, all I crave in this world is a do-over. And over. And maybe over once or twice after that.

She’s gorgeous, scary smart, and fearless. It’s hard to reconcile her with the mousy little fledgling I kinda remember. To say she’s grown up well is the understatement of a lifetime. The Goddess blessed her in every way possible, wow. She’s also strong as hell in the face of an unseen enemy.

I wasn’t expecting to end up as the Crown Prince, but now that I am, I plan to do everything I can to make sure our people are safe and our lives as free citizens are uninterrupted. There are other members of my family that can’t say the same.

My issues with my brother were only superficial, or so I thought, but now that I’ve supplanted him in the line of succession, you can say they’re now pretty much intractable.

King, Country, Crown, and kin, my duty is to defend all of them, my desire is to have Cora by my side as I do it. It will be difficult, I have no illusions about it, but I am more than up for the challenge.

Our love is worth it.
